Narrative
✎
12 Aug 1858: Instrument executed by James Hammet (by mark) concerning the 'Linsey Wagon and team' (three yoke of oxen) securing a $110 promissory note to Surmon Deens due 25 Dec 1858. Hammet retains possession/use until maturity, with condition of proper care and return if paid; wagon and oxen subject to Surmon Deens' order at maturity if unpaid. Recorded in Deed Book N, p. 73. Note: deed text contains internal drafting inconsistency ('sold unto said James Hammet...' then 'I warrant unto said Surman Deens'); treated here as security instrument based on condition clause and the note obligation to Surmon Deens.
