Direct Tax list printed in The Republican and Savannah Evening Ledger (7 Jul 1812, Vol. 10, No. 81, p. 4), heading "Montgomery & Tatnall Counties; Eighth Collection District; Second Division". A related published notice explains that, by virtue of an Act of Congress passed 16 Mar 1802 ("An act to lay and collect a Direct Tax within the United States"), collectors would sell at public sale so much of the listed estates as would satisfy taxes due (plus legal costs/charges) unless paid before sale; notice signed Robert Habersham, acting supervisor, dated 5 May 1812 and printed in the Georgia Journal (Milledgeville, GA) on 29 Jul 1812 (p. 10). Richard Dean taxed $0.31; Sherod Dean taxed $0.32.
